This smart oyster bar in the heart of the historic Pantiles serves up a wide range of British seafood, including crawfish – ‘a native species of crustacean almost exclusively exported to mainland Europe until very recently’. “Loved the fact we could build our own seafood platter” and “enjoyed sitting at the kitchen bar and interacting with the chefs”. Drinks include fizz from the Squerryes vineyard in nearby Westerham.

Set appropriately in the old fishmarket in the heart of Tunbridge Wells’s Pantiles, this bar serves a tidy selection of fresh oysters from around Britain, Ireland and Jersey, backed up by a choice of fruits de mer, crustacea and fish plus Champagnes and local Kent sparklers. It’s “expensive” (as you would expect) “but has a good ambience”.

This small-scale outpost of the local Sankey’s empire is a “good all-rounder in a handy location” – the old Fishmarket venue in The Pantiles – serving a fair range of oysters, fruits de mer and shellfish, plus Kent sparkling wines, Champagnes and beers. It’s “no-nonsense” but “excellent”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
