Richard Boon’s “slowly expanding West Country chain” – which emerged from his original venue, the Hub in St Ives, which opened 21 years ago – owes its success to doing simple things properly: namely “good burgers” from grass-fed Cornish beef. “Cheerful staff” and “fabulously crunchy onion rings” add to the appeal and it inspired a good degree of feedback in this year’s annual diners’ poll.

“Good burgers, excellent fries and tasty shakes…should be easy but so often done badly” – fortunately not the case at this West Country fast-food chain. This branch benefits from a “lovely cosy atmosphere in an old church and cheerful service” to boot.

“Good burgers”, “good chips – both potato and sweet potato”, “truly excellent onion rings and tortillas” and “an excellent selection of draught beers and cider” feature on the menu at this funky West Country fast-food chain with eight outlets. “Will def go back!”

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Onion rings still fabulously crunchy & light. Burgers & fries still very good. But service was slow (an hour for our drinks to arrive), inaccurate (possibly due to the music being too loud to hear the order accurately) and the ketchup & mayo (that used to be on all the tables) never arrived. Not what it was & failed to impress the grandparents we'd raved about it to. "

"Set in a repurposed church, the original burger bar is still a good bet. The burgers are moist and tasty. The onion rings are worth the visit and our kids rate the milkshakes"
