“Remote, yes, but well worth finding” – this harbourside hotel with 12 rooms has a “stunning view” over Loch Linnhe and is set right beside the pier where the ferry ventures forth to the isle of Lismore. Sustainably caught seafood (served in towering platters) is the star here, including “the best langoustines” ever – and it all comes for a more humble price tag than at its pricier and more famous sibling The Three Chimneys, on Skye.

“The best view in the world” – over Loch Linnhe and the island of Lismore – elevate a visit to this “lovely” hotel-restaurant in the “fantastic setting” of an ex-piermaster’s house. “Seafood is king here”, with “generous platters of local produce” amongst the “simple and brilliant” offering (none of which will dent your wallet as much as a trip to its famed Skye sibling, the Three Chimneys).

It’s “worth the detour” to sample the “excellent fresh and simple seafood” at this former piermaster’s house overlooking Loch Linnhe, noted for its “old-fashioned service and ambience”. “Sister to the Three Chimneys on Skye, this hotel is more accessible and equally good”.

The kitchen at this former piermaster’s house has come back “better than ever”, with a “simplified menu (possibly because of Covid) but quality unsurpassed”. Highlights include shellfish from the locality – Loch Creran oysters, Loch Leven mussels and Loch Linnhe langoustines. A sibling of the famous Three Chimneys in Skye, the Pierhouse has wonderful sea views across to the Isle of Mull.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
