Harden's survey result
Summary
The “freshest of fish and seafood” from the surrounding waters is served in a “relaxed atmosphere” at this remote harbourside hotel – “the drive here past Castle Stalker is so beautiful, and the restaurant overlooks the ferry to the Isle of Lismore”. Michael Leathley – ‘Chef of the Year’ at the Hotels of the Year Scotland awards in 2025 – “allows ingredients to speak for themselves”, such as “the best langoustines”, supplied by local fisherman Eoghan Black. Along with its well-known sibling, the Three Chimneys on Skye, it is owned these days by Scottish-born international hotelier Gordon Campbell Gray. Top Menu Tip – “excellent Cullen Skink”.
Summary
“Remote, yes, but well worth finding” – this harbourside hotel with 12 rooms has a “stunning view” over Loch Linnhe and is set right beside the pier where the ferry ventures forth to the isle of Lismore. Sustainably caught seafood (served in towering platters) is the star here, including “the best langoustines” ever – and it all comes for a more humble price tag than at its pricier and more famous sibling The Three Chimneys, on Skye.
Summary
“The best view in the world” – over Loch Linnhe and the island of Lismore – elevate a visit to this “lovely” hotel-restaurant in the “fantastic setting” of an ex-piermaster’s house. “Seafood is king here”, with “generous platters of local produce” amongst the “simple and brilliant” offering (none of which will dent your wallet as much as a trip to its famed Skye sibling, the Three Chimneys).
Summary
It’s “worth the detour” to sample the “excellent fresh and simple seafood” at this former piermaster’s house overlooking Loch Linnhe, noted for its “old-fashioned service and ambience”. “Sister to the Three Chimneys on Skye, this hotel is more accessible and equally good”.
For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Pierhouse Hotel Restaurant Diner Reviews
"A very happy place ! We visited on the strength of the Hardens reviews, and were not disappointed in any way. Their strapline "Seafood Heaven" says it all - the freshness of all the seafood was very obvious, and the quality superb. The Staff were clearly happy in their respective jobs, which much laughter which was infectious, and added to the happy, relaxed atmosphere. (If available, the skate wings are spectacular!)"
