For 25 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 60,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.

Summary

“The position of the restaurant is superb” – a Beach Cliff Edwardian building along from the pier, whose large windows provide views over the Penarth esplanade to the sea. “Excellent quality ingredients are elevated to another level thanks to the talent of chef James Sommerin” and his “friendly” family-led team.

Summary

From the ex-chef of the Crown at Whitebrook, this two-year-old restaurant-with-rooms gains praise for its “exceptional quality” cuisine, in particular “great seafood”. Niggles remain that “the ambience doesn’t quite match the food”, but others say it’s improved since opening. “The (waterside) views are spectacular too (although the layout of the restaurant doesn’t maximise that benefit).”

Summary

The former Crown at Whitebrook chef’s new waterside restaurant-with-rooms continues to attract acclaim for its “refined cooking and excellent ingredients”; “the room is not quite right”, though – “the sea view is wasted” and the décor errs on the side of “naff”.

Summary

The chef who made his name at the former Crown at Whitebrook is already producing many “excellent” dishes at this new waterside restaurant-with-rooms; service is excellent too.

"The restaurant was a bit soulless. The lobster starter was excellent and worth the £14. The carpaccio of cod was mediocre. The mains of brill were good but not exceptional. A bit expensive but the cooking was accomplished."
