“The recent change of hands (as of 2017) has done nothing to spoil” this classic boozer; although it had a brief dip in fortunes, it’s once again well-rated by all who report on it: particularly its above average cooking.
This “secluded” 18th-century inn on the corner of a steep hill near Faversham inspired more mixed opinions since a change of ownership in late 2017: most reporters still see it as “a quintessential pub” with “sound” cooking, but others say “it’s lost lots of what made it special and has become very ordinary”.
“A textbook ‘gastropub’” – a “remarkably understated place” offering “quality food at value-for-money prices”. “Despite its rather remote location, it’s always well patronised – never had a bad meal on numerous visits over the years”.
“Lovely and attentive” staff, “clean, cheerful interiors” (including “lots of little rooms” to hide away in) and “interesting and tasty” food make this village gastropub a “favourite for family occasions”.
