“Amazing and very different” Indian “fusion” cuisine (fans say it’s “better than Benares in London”) inspires nothing but praise for Dev Biswal’s “buzzy” Margate HQ, opposite the Turner Gallery – and with outposts in Canterbury and Rye. In 2018 it relocated to the former Hoy pub after eight years at its original King Street site, and the “much more comfortable” surrounds contribute to make a visit a “real joy”.
“Simply amazing”, agree fans of Dev Biswal’s Margate flagship: “the best Indian/Asian fusion restaurant ever”, which has now moved from King Street into roomier premises on Fort Hill, near the Turner Contemporary gallery. The “beautifully crafted, quality spiced food is not at all like a bog-standard Indian” – and represents “astonishing value”, especially for lunch. Founded in 2010, it now has offshoots in Canterbury and Rye.
“Fine Indian food with a European twist, with some superb flavours and interesting combinations” consistently wins rave reviews for Div Biswal’s “relaxed” and “surprisingly great” pub-conversion, which “while perhaps not quite in the same league as London’s best Indians such as Quilon, offers fantastic value for money”: “I’ve visited at least 50 times and never had a bad meal!” See also Ambrette Canterbury.
“A sort of cross between Indian and ‘haute cuisine’” – “Div Biswal’s expertly-prepared, exceptional Indian and British-fusion dishes” at his original venture (it now also has a Canterbury spin-off). “It’s really good to see care and attention paid to Indian cuisine in this way!” Top Tip – “excellent value lunch”.
