Top dog in the London dining scene 25 years ago – and nowadays specialising in fish as part of the D&D London stable – this extensively glazed, “very noisy” venue just off Notting Hill Gate “can be patchy, but hits the spot exactly when on form”, with “lovely fresh seafood”, “cooked to perfection”.
This “glass-fronted bastion” – in its day, a seminal icon of the 1990s restaurant scene near Notting Hill – nowadays, under D&D London, specialises in fish with its own fishmonger next door. “Not as slick or smart as it was” in its heyday – and “not cheap” – but the food is “fresh and well-cooked”. (Avoid the place if you don’t like “distracting acoustics” – it can get far “too noisy”.)
“Thanks to all those windows, it’s extremely bright” inside this once-famous ’90s ‘goldfish bowl’, off Notting Hill Gate, nowadays enlarged and “re-invented as a fish restaurant to gear up on its excellent adjacent fish shop” (plus “with a popular, pop-up fish ’n’ chip shop in the former private dining room”). “Don’t expect to hear your dining companions”, but the food’s “reliable”.
This seminal ’90s venue, off Notting Hill Gate – with its “bright windows and open interior” – was “reinvented after the post-Rowley Leigh wilderness years” and is now biased to “delicious” fish and seafood (with shop attached); sceptics still find the food a tad “ordinary” however, and the setting’s “noisy” as ever.
Kensington Place Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Lunch at Kensington Place 31 August for the first time for 2 years and how it has gone downhill from the stylish space with excellent cooking and slick service then. Food greasy, service appalling, toilets dirty and £10.25 for a spicy tomato juice. Not recommended any more"
"Lunch for a large party in private room worked well"
