“The ambience isn’t great”, but this inconspicuous South Indian café on Hammersmith’s busy King Street is “still a top, no-frills performer in a crowded local market”. “Service is very friendly” and it serves “gorgeous Keralan fare” that’s “always of the highest standard” and “finely spiced”, especially the “fresh vegetables”.

In an anonymous-looking Hammsersmith parade of shops, this Keralan café is a particularly notable “hidden gem”“when it comes to authentic, deft, southern Indian cooking for a minimal bill, Shilpa sure hits the spot” and is “unbelievable value”. A word of caution: “it’s anything but an exciting place”: it’s all about the “genuine cooking”.

“Skilfully blended flavours in sensational dishes” (“delicious vegetarian” and “dazzling seafood”) come as a total surprise at this utterly nondescript-looking Keralan café, in an anonymous row of restaurants near Hammersmith town hall. “No ‘two-pot’ cooking here – clear use of fresh herbs and spices.” It’s also “extraordinarily good value”. Any gripes? Well, the room is pretty “downbeat” and “you may have to wait while they churn out the takeaways”.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
