A “fabulous wine list with so many wines available by the glass” is the key draw to this trio of wine-bar/kitchens from the West End to Chelsea (the Draycott Avenue branch closed this year). Dining can seem “quite pricey” for what it is, but most diners say they “love the food as well”.

An “impressive wine list” is the undoubted highlight of this small group, with branches in the West End and Chelsea – the newest branch is a 120-cover site near Oxford Circus. No-one has terrible things to say about its food selection, though, which is judged “passable…”, “OK…”, “…tasty if a little pricey”.

“The sort of handy local that everyone needs” – with “good food and a particularly interesting wine list” – this modern wine bar chain has expanded with investment from its new owner, Alpine holiday supremo Richard Green, and now has branches in Marylebone, Covent Garden, South Ken and Chelsea. “The wine is what you come for”, “from a list that is both surprising and well understood by the staff” – with a range available by the glass as well as some “fabulous but expensive” ‘Collectors’ bottles.

“Useful pre-Wigmore Hall” – this Marylebone original is now the sole surviving branch of what for a few years become a chain, but which retrenched last year. The space – with large windows and dominated by the bar – “doesn’t encourage you to linger”, but the “simple dishes are well executed, at a good price”. Really, though, it’s “all about the wines by the glass” (15 reds and 15 whites), plus a ‘Collector’s List’ of rare vintages by the bottle.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
