Harden's survey result
“You can tell the moment you walk through the door that the people who own it are involved and want to make their guests’ experience enjoyable” – that’s the vibe at Monica and David Galetti’s “peaceful and delightful” Fitzrovia two-year-old. “You have a relaxing drink at street level in the bar, and then it’s down a flight of steps to a chic room flooded in natural light from the street outside”. “The heart in the mind-blowing cooking shines through” – in particular the “wonderful, delicate, balanced tasting menu, packed with fresh seasonal ingredients”; and “it’s paired with an exceptional wine list”. “Staff are outstanding and the chef/patron visiting guests at their tables is a lovely touch”. “Must surely get its Michelin star soon?”
“Monica Galetti’s attention to detail shines through” and helps inspire a “stand-out total experience” at the Fitzrovia yearling that she runs with her husband David (formerly the sommelier at Le Gavroche): you start with “amazing cocktails” in the ground floor bar, and then move on to the “welcoming” downstairs restaurant. Alongside the à la carte options, it features “a very memorable tasting menu” (“exquisite flavours and textures, all perfectly cooked” and with a veggie option), and marries them with wine from the “superb” and “well-matched wine list”. If there’s a quibble, it’s that “portions can be very small for the price”. La Patronne “takes the time to visit each table”; and the “friendly and professional” service led by her hubbie adds a lot to the experience. And although “tables are perhaps a little close together”, reporters generally like this “intimate” and “good-looking space”.
MasterChef: The Professionals judge, Monica Galetti’s Fitzrovia newcomer opened shortly before our 2017 survey and gives the impression of still settling down. On the plus side, the service (overseen by husband, ex-Gavroche sommelier, David) is “exceptionally friendly and top notch” and the “comfortable” basement setting feels “classy” and “perfectly relaxed”. A number of reports find the (primarily Gallic) cuisine “needing to improve” or “lacking in wow factor”, but “excellent” meals are also noted and the fairest view is “this is one to watch and likely to get more polished with time”.
Long-time right hand woman of Michel Roux Jr and ‘MasterChef: The Professionals’ judge, Monica Galetti, has revealed plans for her first solo venture. Incorporating a small ground-floor bar and basement restaurant, it’s set to open in January 2017.

"Very sweet service - pretty good food - good for business atmosphere"
"Superb food. Creative tasting menu with an excellent wine pairing. Enjoyed every minute of our visit. Such delicious flavours. "
"A stand out meal! A really appealing and enjoyable menu paired with an exceptional wine list. Pricey, but so worth it. Service was truly impeccable, great cocktails, staff, attention to detail & a special fuss (including baking a delicious cake) for a joint birthday."
"We chose the Tasting Menu. The food was superb. Wonderful variety of textures, flavours and amazing presentation. We were however, a little disappointed with the cheese course (just one piece of Comte - and a very small slice at that). Most dishes were described to us, as well as having a list of each course presented on a sheet at the table. What we were not happy about was that we were rushed through our courses and the wine glasses were constantly being filled up after a couple of sips at that. We were there on a Monday evening and it was not busy. From choosing our meal to finishing it was 90 minutes."
