Few restaurants can boast the heritage of this Mayfair two-year-old: the first ever spin-off from a Milanese original of over 120 years’ standing. It’s still a case of promise unfulfilled, though, with reports that are very up and down, despite a general acknowledgement of “friendly service and a pleasant interior” (the latter very classical in style). “Eye-watering prices” are key to the ambivalence felt by diners, despite some dishes that are “clearly wonderful” – if you give it a go, perhaps try the set lunch, which is “exceptional value by comparison to other options here”.

It took 120 years for the famous Milan original of the same name to spawn this first international spin-off, which opened in Mayfair (on the site of Camillo Benso) in September 2020. They have spent a packet on its very classic looks, which creates a “quiet but not sombre” atmosphere; and for a traditional Italian experience (down to the heart-flutter when the bill arrives) some early reports are high on the “wow!” scale. Initial ratings are tempered, though, by the odd reporter who feels a visit was “fun but not memorable”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
