Summary
This luxurious Art Deco hotel near Selfridges with its 1920s NYC-style grill room underwent a major refurbishment during the lockdowns to emerge in August 2021 with a lighter, slightly more colourful look (with striking new murals and banquettes now in deep-red leather). Chef Ben Boeynaems oversees the cooking, which focuses on shellfish, grills, steaks and tableside salads.
Summary
In late 2018, Corbin & King lost the management contract for this luxurious Art Deco hotel near Selfridges (to the Barclay family), including its “exceptional-looking”, 1920s NYC-style grill room. However for a certain kind of swish American experience, it still nails it: for example, even a reporter who thinks “it’s tailed off a bit since leaving the care of C&K” feels “it’s still a must-visit to experience the classic, US-country-club style”; and the “transatlantic, slightly retro cuisine” that goes with that (“very rich – but great if that’s to your taste”). On the flip side, a cynical view is that it’s at risk of becoming “a theme park for nostalgic Americans longing for the food of their childhood”. Top Tip – “a wonderful breakfast” for business or pleasure.

Summary
Corbin & King’s “terrific 1920s New York-style grill room in the stunning art deco Beaumont Hotel is a stone’s throw away from Selfridges, yet impossible to come across by chance”. According to most reports, a visit is “a luxurious treat”, on account of its “comfortable and plush” style and “typical American fare, from hot dogs to chicken pot pie”. To some tastes though, the pricey food is so “straightforward” as to seem “a little uninspired.” Top Tips – “the breakfast hashes are superb” and “design-your-own ice cream sundae with an amazing selection of flavours, toppings and sauces is great fun for kids and adults alike”.
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
