May 2019: Peter Gordon and Michael McGrath have announced that Providores will close at the end of July, after 18 years of bringing Kiwi culture to London.
Harden's survey result
“Peter Gordon, the father of fusion food, still produces delicious food with great flair” – “superbly executed and with vibrant flavours” – at his Marylebone venue. There’s a strong taste of his native New Zealand led by “exceptional Kiwi wines”. It’s quite a “cramped” place though, and some recommend “choose the bustling, atmospheric ground floor, not upstairs”.
“The menu knocks your socks off!” – “Peter Gordon continues to excel”, at the renowned Kiwi chef’s Pacific fusion venue in Marylebone; still serving “beautiful, inventive and original dishes” well into its second decade, with marks for its food riding higher than ever. “The tables are too close together and it’s pricey, but I keep going back...”
“Peter Gordon’s genius still works its magic” at his long-established pan-Pacific HQ. The upstairs room is “small, crowded, dark and noisy”, but the “fusion dishes are wondrous – simple tastes combine to make something unique and totally delicious”. “Great and interesting breakfast” too.
“Still exciting!” – even after 15 years, support for Peter Gordon’s “imaginative” Pan-Pacific Marylebone tapas bar is very solid – if you’re prepared to be “squashed” into the “crowded” dining room, results can still “surprise”.
The Providores and Tapa Room Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Peter Gordon’s food is an excellent example of fusion cooking. Thoughtful combinations that really work. Let down by poor service on a quiet night. "
"Interesting menu with some variety. Cooking was excellent and service very well balanced between attentive and intrusive. Overall a refreshing experience. "
