“Stonking steaks are the draw” at this small four-year-old, “on a rather bleak stretch of ‘Claxton’ (CLApham/BriXTON) highway”. “The room is pretty basic” (and “intimate to the point of cramped”) but fans like its “warm and slightly rustic” charm as enlivened by “the friendliest staff”. “Sunday roasts are top notch” too – “you get complimentary mini Yorkshires and gravy to start; and the veg is superb”.

“Fantastic meat” – led by “truly excellent steaks” (ethically sourced from the Lake District) – has made this tiny, “noisy” two-year-old steakhouse on the Clapham-Brixton border one of the hottest dining tickets in South London. “The Sunday lunches are legendary: homemade bread with butter, then a board of mini Yorkshire puds with unctuous dipping gravy. And that’s even before the main course, where beef is best – superlatively rare”. All is “served with real charm and enthusiasm” by “attentive staff who remember you when you return”.

“Elegantly cooked steaks, beautifully presented with deep umami flavours” make Matt-‘The Dairy’-Wells’s new “small put perfectly formed” ‘neighbourhood steak restaurant’ an “absolutely fantastic” addition to SW4. The first part of a planned local chain – all the meat is British, from the Lakes – and there’s Cornish fish and seafood too.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"The best Sunday roasts, well cooked and hangover busting food. Or you could go for the lighter fish option, delicate and moist. "
