Breaking news

February 6, 2026:

Later this year, the restaurant will move… but just a few doors further down chichi Pavillion Road to a new "bistro and fish and chip shop". The original location, at 174 Pavilion Road will function until the new one opens in May, at 243 Pavilion Road – with an expanded retail offering. The upstairs bistro has 40 covers where chef Nick Marsden will serve small plates (cuttlefish, pickled salsify and cauliflower purée or confit sea trout, white asparagus and mustard greens) and “seafood feasts” (grilled half Cornish lobster with vin jaune sabayon and brown butter, and whole plaice, braised punterelle, broad beans and mint). At night, the shop will morph into a 10-seat seafood bar, plus a 28-cover terrace.

Harden's says

Named for an Iris Murdoch novel, this new fish shop and deli (by day) and fish restaurant (by night) is the new project from Alex Hunter, co-founder of Bonnie Gull; we're told to expect guests chefs and workshops from day 1.

“Lots of the fish is aged in-house and the flavours are second to none” at this chic fishmongers and seafood bar in a bougie backstreet off Sloane Street; and “sitting at the counter being served by the chef feels special”. Sadly, though, its dazzlingly brilliant Haggerston sibling closed in March, leaving this Chelsea branch, which is primarily an amenity for the local ladies-who-lunch rather than a major magnet for serious foodies (as was the case in the East End, where the ambition was off the charts).

For 35 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
