“Consistently great omakase” cuisine that’s “incredible value for money” has attracted an adoring fan club over the past decade for this “exceptional” Japanese spot in a suburban shopping parade, near South Wimbledon tube. Ex-Nobu chef Taka and his wife Yuko guarantee a “serene experience”, and “the neutral decor creates a Zen-like calmness which somehow enhances the food”. “It’s worth taking the Northern Line to SW19 just to eat there!”. (In putting together our prices for this year, though, we note a big jump in its formula price from previous editions – the offering here seems to be becoming more ambitious but priced more to match other omakase experiences around town).

“Peerless food and gentle, elegant service” again wins adulation for this “hidden gem” in an anonymous parade of shops near South Wimbledon tube. Ex-Nobu chef Taka and his wife Yuko have run this 12-seater for over 10 years now, where they deliver an “outstanding omakase” for such an affordable price – “absolutely exquisite” sushi; and “service that’s very sympathetic”.

“The omakase experience borders on the sublime”“it’s food as art” – at this “hidden gem” of a Japanese restaurant, tucked away in an unpromising shopping parade near South Wimbledon tube for almost a decade now. Former Nobu chef Taka and his wife Yuko preside over a “very personalised food offering”, with their “delightful and kind service”.

“Like a work of art!” – the “beautifully presented, elegant, superior-quality food and delightful service” at this tiny and “minimalist” Japanese restaurant in the unlikely surroundings of a parade of shops near South Wimbledon tube are a match for anything in the West End. Taka, a former Nobu chef, and his wife Yuko have consistently earned our highest possible food ratings since opening seven years ago.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
