Harden's survey result
Summary
“A chain that defies the image of chains!” – “by far the tastiest of the ‘gourmet’ burger groups has yet to succumb to the typical slip-in-quality as it grows”, and is nowadays the most-mentioned burger multiple in the survey. It has “taken the mantle from Byron” in recent years, with both a “better, less formulaic approach” and also a “slower and steadier opening programme”: a combination that’s “maintained the basic fundamentals of a decent, un-mucked-up formula”. “Half restaurant/ half fast food in style, there are no starters and only ices for dessert, so you are in and out inside an hour. But, if you are looking for a good quality quick bite, this is the place for you”. “It knocks out great-value, no-nonsense burgers, still serves them medium rare in flagrant defiance of food hygiene fascism, does the best veggie burger around (more of a fritter), and now does the famous ’bleeding’ vegan burger, oozing beetroot juice for those requiring the illusion of meat with their veg”. Other winning features include “addictive rosemary chips”, “interesting specials (which vary by branch)” and “great beers on draught” from local breweries.
Summary
“A lot of chains could learn an awful lot from Honest Burgers” which is pipped to the crown of London’s best burger only narrowly by a couple of smaller groups (Patty & Bun and Bleecker). “Gloriously juicy” and “scrumptious” patties are served “with lovely buns” and – not to be forgotten – “the legendary, addictive rosemary fries to die for” (included in the price). All this plus “really helpful staff and a lively, industrial-chic vibe” make it a massive ongoing hit. “They even do gluten-free burger buns!”. “No wonder it’s tough times at Byron…”
Summary
“The best and most distinctive of the upmarket burger chains”: they “dare to serve them medium-rare as standard”, alongside those “deliciously moreish rosemary fries, which deserve mention as a stand out simple side”; all this plus “warm and welcoming staff and a cool vibe”… “what more can a girl want?”
Summary
“Simple, perfect burgers… simply the best!” – the survey’s top slot, certainly amongst the bigger burger brands, goes to this “cool” chain, whose “to-die-for, salty rosemary fries” help inspire addiction; expect “huge lines”, but “their app allowing you to queue virtually is genius”. Top Tip – the original Brixton branch remains a destination in itself.
