Closure Statement May 23, 2019 from the owner, Ersin Sirer Good Bye Chelsea Bun, Thanks a Million! After 35 glorious years operating the Chelsea Bun, it has finally shut it’s doors for the last time. Back in 1984 my beloved late father invested the money and I became his operational partner, subsequently I bought the place from him in 1994. CB-Closing What a joy and a privilege it has been to serve all the many thousands of customers who dined here, the rich, the poor, the homeless and the famous. Some of the Stars & Celebrities that had dined at The Bun; Adam Faith, Kylie Minogue Minnie Driver Dolph Lundgren Bon Jovi Eric Clapton Jules Holland Martine McCutcheon Sarah Duchess of York Ross Kemp Ex world boxing champion Tim Wetherspoon Bob Geldof Ex world boxing champion Barry McGuigan footballer Dennis Wise footballer Paul Elliott Daniel Radcliffe Rory Bremner BBC Hard Talk presenter Stephen Sackur Gordon Ramsey In it’s hey day the place would be completely full and with a queue stretching from the shop up to the Kings Road, on many occasions 40 people deep. I valued each and every one of our patrons, whether it was a customer buying a cup of tea or a large breakfast, the amount of spend was irrelevant it was our good fortune to serve them. For me it was a second home, I loved the place, there could not be another, my wonderful memories, the lovely people I met, the many friends I made. We closed because the lease had expired, renewing would of meant a substantial increase in rent which I could not afford given we were barely surviving the past years on the current rent and high business rates. This was combined with a substantial drop in business due to a proliferation of competition in the area, many of which are large corporate chains backed by invisible private equity and corporate funds killing off small independent operators like myself. Thank you all for making what Chelsea Bun was a humble simple “World Famous Cafe”! Thank you also to my wonderful staff it could not of happened without you….. ERSIN SIRER
