“A useful addition to St James’s”, on the attractive former site of Boulestin and L’Oranger, which benefits from a light-filled main dining room, and a cute adjoining terrace in summer (“a fascinating and enchanting hidden corner”). It was opened in July 2020 by Frenchman Richard Weiss, who worked at Brasserie St Jacques (long RIP) down the road, before it became Café Murano, and thrives on its “accomplished French cuisine and helpful service”. You can push the boat out pricewise if you want to, but there’s an unusually good range of more modestly priced items here if you are on a budget.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Unpretentious, classic French cooking delivered by an efficient and accommodating waiting staff. We had a wonderful evening and would have happily selected any of the options on the menu. Wine list has something for everyone and the evening was topped off by the theatre of Crepes Suzette cooked by our table. Highly recommended. "

"A mid week lunch outing. Service was faultless form the moment we entered the restaurant. Everybody was welcoming, smiles on their faces. A special mention for "the rock"... knows his trade and you can tell he loves doing what he does. For us he was the order taker, don't fancy that with that course ... no problem may I suggest this instead... no hastle.... A very knowledgeable sommelier. his eyes were continually on the move watching the tables to make sure everything was "just so". As for the food, a delight... scallops, wild boar stew, followed by crepe suzette's... as you might expect created at your table by "the Rock". We'll be back."
