The “fabulous, flavour-packed, spicy ‘Chinese’ food from China’s Muslim northwest” (Xinjiang, home of the Uighurs) “never fails to hit the spot” at this “canteen-style” pit-stop in Camberwell. It’s an absolute “byword for value”, too (“and now accepts card payment”).

“Xinjiang/Uighur flavours that make few excuses for local palates”, with “big portions and small prices” have combined to win a cult following for this outpost of north west China in deepest Camberwell. Expect “great food in a basic setting” along with “a wait – it gets seriously busy”. Top Tip – hand-made noodles and “lamb fat skewers are divine”.

This “amazing Uighur canteen in the depths of Camberhell” serves “incredible” food with “punchy flavours and interesting textures” from China’s northwestern Xinjiang province – “homemade noodles, dumplings, stews & lamb skewers”“without any fanfare”. It’s “cash-only (and very cheap)”, “noisy”, with “communal benches and abrupt service”“so don’t go for a quiet romantic evening”. Top Tip: “lamb and fat chunks is mind-blowing”.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
