Cheese, cheese and more cheese – in toasties, or as raclette – have made Bill Oglethorpe’s market stall one of the linchpins of Borough Market. Since 2017, you can also visit their dairy in nearby Bermondsey, although you can only actually eat-in there on Saturday morning and lunchtime.
“Some of the best cheese toasties in London, plus fantastic raclette” won renown for Bill Oglethorpe’s Borough Market venture – for years a stall in the market and since 2017 with permanent shop premises in nearby Stoney Street.
“Elevating melted cheese into high art” – this wizard Borough Market stall uses a mix of cheeses, leek, onions, shallots and sourdough bread to create “the best cheese toastie in the world, bar none!!”. Expect to queue at busy times.
“Taking the cheese toastie to another level (by using three cheeses, plus onion, leek, and shallots in sourdough bread)” – this Borough Market stall is arguably “the nicest way to take in five or six hundred calories” all in one go, even if “the queuing and purchasing tedium aren’t the best”.
