Harden's survey result
For 25 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 60,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
“It’s cramped, it’s busy”, but “you’ll never get bored of the variety of coffee flavours on offer”, at these epic caffeine-stops – the best-known of London’s top tier coffee house chains – where “excellent recommendations” from the “really knowledgeable” staff (“who will let you sample and taste different growths”) really add to the experience. Borough Market is the definitive branch, and – as well as the pastries offered elsewhere in the group – also has bread and jam on hand to soak up the brews.
“The queues can be ridiculous” for these “shrines to coffee” but “the sheer quality of their beans makes it a first choice” and “service is five-star even when they are manically busy” (i.e. mostly). The famous Borough Market shop suffers “an annoying number of hipsters outside” but otherwise “makes a wonderful place to watch the world go by”, and enjoy “delicious bread and jam” too. All branches serve “a few yummy pastries”.
The coffee is “a miracle” – and “there’s a wonderful range” too (plus “super” pastries, and at SE1 “fabulous bread ’n’ jam”) – at these “totally friendly”, if “crowded” communal café-classics.
The coffee is “sublime” and the “perfectly trained staff” help create a “harmonious” ambience at these cult cafés; in Borough Market, “the rustic, communal wooden tables are laden with moreish bread, butter and a selection of preserves – get stuck in!”
