Harden's survey result
Summary
“What a superb place”: the old goods rooms and booking hall of Peckham Rye station – lending the enterprise “a touch of Victorian elegance” – repurposed five years ago as a modern restaurant serving “tasty and beautifully presented European dishes, with thoughtful and attentive staff, brilliant cocktails and a good wine list”. “If only we’d retained and re-used more of these buildings”. Top Tip: “the best toilets in south London”.
Summary
“A must-visit, right by Peckham station” – whose converted Grade II ticket office houses this “excellent” three-year-old: a stand-out even by the area’s lofty standards. “Robust, even macho” dishes, from the smoker and robata grills, are central both to the open kitchen and the menu. Top Tip – “worth a visit for the WC alone” – beautifully restored, old, Victorian bogs.

Top Tip – “worth a visit for the WC alone” – beautifully restored, old, Victorian bogs.
Summary
The tastefully restored, Grade II listed, former ticket office of Peckham Rye station is the venue for this year-old venture, named for its ‘live fire’ mode of cooking from the large smoker and robata grills which are central to the open kitchen. Open from breakfast on – and serving a flatbread menu at lunch – fans hail its “amazing and interesting food” (“I daren’t rate it too highly for fear we won’t be able to get a table!”), although other feedback say it’s good but not outstanding.
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
