“Solid cooking” of some ambition – with “clean and distinct flavours” – helps inspire good reports on this Welsh chef’s South Bank venue, most particularly as “a handy option for a high-quality meal prior to heading for the Bridge Theatre”. “The experience can sometimes feel no more than functional”, however, as “the modern setting does not contribute much character”, but “friendly service” is some compensation.

“A welcome addition to the growing Tower Bridge development” – this year-old London debut of Pembrokeshire-born chef Tom Simmons (who appeared on MasterChef: The Professionals) brings a focus on Welsh ingredients to the capital, and wins praise for its “good produce, well put together”, and “sensible prices”. Teething issues have included gripes about staff training, and some feel “the décor could do with an uplift” but its “excellent position makes it a good choice for a business lunch” (or eating around a show at the new Bridge Theatre). Hopefully a financial restructuring (which took place in mid-summer 2018) will provide the necessary headroom to develop the site further.
