A slice of Vienna in Camden Passage that’s “more than a coffee shop” (with “terrific brews and cakes”) but also “a lovely casual lunch or dinner spot” with “great” Austrian specialities including “perfect schnitzel”. A Ladbroke Grove offshoot closed down in early 2019.
“Great coffee and breakfast” are the crowd-pleasers at this Viennese café in Islington – “but it’s more than a coffee house, it’s a good restaurant too”, say fans. “Try the dumplings and schnitzel”. A second branch in Ladbroke Grove (at 95 Golborne Rd, tel 020 8969 5852) is more like a ‘Heurigen’ – an Austrian wine bar.
“Great strudel, and the best sachertorte north of Vienna!” help score fans for this modern Austrian coffee house in Islington (with a new branch in Ladbroke Grove), and there’s also a “small, unusual menu” of more substantial dishes like Viennese sausages, dumplings and schnitzels.
From the “great dumplings and schnitzel” to “authentic Viennese cakes and Austrian coffee” (and even wine), this Islington deli-café serves “a good range of dishes” showing “dedication to the Austrian style and approach”. It’s not a Tyrolean kitsch-fest either – in fact the interior is “rather bland”.
