This business-friendly venue overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral is part of the D&D London operation and offers “pretty good steaks” cooked over charcoal, although the “ridiculous prices” are likely to deter all but expense account diners (and maybe also TV fans, as the show First Dates has been filmed here for the past six years).
Overlooking St Paul’s from the fringes of the Square Mile’s Paternoster Square development, this D&D London operation caters mainly for City expense-accounters. It’s best known as the location for TV show First Dates, but for romance look elsewhere – “the tables are too close together” and the food’s “expensive and average”.
That its main claim to fame nowadays is as the location for TV show First Dates speaks volumes for the unimpressive performance of this modern steakhouse, by St Paul’s, which has never really made the grade with its natural City business-dining constituency. “Of all the D&D London places, this is near the bottom, with impossibly slow service, tables too close, little ambience or magic to the room itself, and average food”. (And in real-life, heart-throb maître d’ Fred Sirieix doesn’t work here, but at Galvin at Windows on Park Lane.)
“With a location like this they should try harder”, but D&D London’s steakhouse – with its al fresco tables and magnificent pavement-side views of St Paul’s – is too busy making money from its captive be-suited market: it’s “overpriced and the food’s not that good”.
Paternoster Chop House Restaurant Diner Reviews
"The pork chop and the lamb chop were delicious (and large servings). The mash was good. Roasted vegetables were available, but I was looking for a simple vegetable, such as broccoli or green beans, but these weren't on the menu. I spotted red cabbage and mistakenly thought that this would be simply steamed. It wasn't - it was served with spices and sultanas. They tried to make it less sweet and ended up not charging me for it. The puddings were a standard brownie and sticky toffee pudding."
"Bustling city venue. Some decent food deals set menus. Staff used to having to whisk people through on limited lunch breaks. For pace and cost, food often a great deal."
