“Excellent modern cooking with Med influences” and a “good natural wine list” are the strengths of this Borough Market staple that has championed organic and biodynamic wine for more than a decade; and which was joined two years ago by a spin-off near London Fields. The cuisine is “down to earth, with some stonking small plates” and matched with “efficient service and a relaxed atmosphere” to provide a “very enjoyable meal”.

This “fun little restaurant in Borough Market” has pioneered “very interesting natural wines” and wood-fire cooking for more than a decade, building a legion of fans in the process. “Have lost count of the number of times I’ve stopped by for a glass of wine and cheesy puffs”, says one. “Sam [co-owner Samantha Lim] is the best host in London and the food matches the service in every way”. A second branch opened on Mare Street in Hackney in summer 2021.

This ten-year-old Borough Market favourite has a “lovely lively ambience” and makes good use of its location to source “excellent, fresh” ingredients for its “delicious Italian-accented small plates” and “tasty seafood”. A pioneer purveyor of natural wines in London, it also champions cooking with wood, both on the grill and in the oven that produces “top-class sourdough pizzas”. A sibling opened in Mare Street, Hackney, in July 2021.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
