“Typical French cuisine perfectly cooked” has won a solid reputation for this “great Wanstead local” – a traditional-ish Gallic bistro, with terrace. Veteran restaurateur Max Renzland, who founded it in 2011, stepped down in 2021, with no evident change in its performance.

This neighbourhood café-brasserie in Wanstead “can be relied on to please and delight”, as it has for a decade under veteran restaurateur Max Renzland and his team – “lovely people, consistently professional and kind”. The dishes are “beautifully prepared” and range from such French bistro classics as “onion soup and celeriac remoulade – to the gourmet Christmas dinner they do some years”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"We used to visit Provender much more often prior to the Covid epidemic, but since then the menu has been dumbed down somewhat with some of the more expensive options having been removed. So we visit much less often."
