“A fantastic and remote setting with views outside over the waters” of Loch Glendhu are the special attractions of this distant hotel, just off NC500 (a 516-mile scenic route around the north coast of Scotland, starting and ending at Inverness Castle). It caught the national press this year on charges of being overpriced, and our reports do include the accusation that it has become a “rip off”. For the majority, though, it’s still “a destination spot whose food and service do not let the location down: lobster mac’n’cheese, catch of the day, monkfish curry all worthy of praise in a place that’s nicely balanced between pub and a hotel”.

“Fantastic views over sea lochs and mountains from the dining room” greet visitors to this distant hotel in the boonies of northwest Scotland, overlooking Loch Glendhu, known for its “good, locally sourced food” (particularly seafood). Since April 2021 it’s been run by new owners, Highland Coast Hotels.

A “stunning setting” looking out towards Loch Glendhu really “makes the occasion” at this diminutive hotel in the wilds of northwest Scotland, and where the focus is on ultra-local seafood, meat and produce, whipped into some “amazing” meals.

This “fantastic small hotel in remote northwest Scotland” serves “fresh fish and seafood to die for from the local waters” – Loch Glendhu is just the other side of the slipway, and there’s an “amazing view across the water from the dining room window on a sunny evening”. “A great place to stop in an area not over-supplied with good restaurants”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
