“If you want proper Italian in Hove (or now Fitzrovia), this is the place to go” – Italian-Australian David Toscano’s relaxed outfit offering seasonal small plates and handmade pastas, with counter seating to watch the chefs at work. Top Tip – look out for their regional banquet nights spotlighting particular Italian regions.

“Love this relaxed and cool Italian place”, declare fans of Italian-Australian former lawyer David Toscano’s “simple and tasty” operation that started out in Vine Street (RIP) but is “really hitting form” in Hove (and now London’s Fitzrovia). There’s a “very short menu, so some diners worry they won’t find anything they want – but there’s no need to worry, as it’s all delicious” – and even more “fun sitting at the counter”.

Italian-Australian ex-lawyer David Toscano’s “great take on Italian food” with “super sharing plates” has won a legion of admirers, including Marina O’Loughlin of the Sunday Times. Popularity (and Covid) meant he outgrew his original tiny site in Brighton’s Vine Street, but the newer Hove venue “has really upped its game”. A London spinoff opened in Fitzrovia in May 2021.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"We took our kids to Cin Cin for the first time and were, dare I say it, a little disappointed. Is more attention being paid to Fitzrovia than Hove?"
