Tucked away near the high street, this “small plates” venue is the debut restaurant from Cornish-based chefs Harry Cartwright and Nathan Outlaw-trained Jay Brady, with a focus on seasonal local ingredients, and delivers “very good, Cornish-style tapas” in a modern (“acoustically reverberant”) setting. There’s also a six-course tasting menu.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"We live in Falmouth and this restaurant doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Simply the best restaurant in town. We’ve been 3 times in the last year trying both small plates and tasting menu. Both were fantastic. Go to this restaurant if you’re in Falmouth!"

I am not one to do reviews via online revie...

"I am not one to do reviews via online review portals but my friends and I had such an enjoyable time on Saturday evening, I felt compelled to leave a review. From the first website view with enough information to entice me to make a booking, and then the online booking system with the SMS texts closer to the booking date and the phone number being easy to find and the lovely staff who answered each time were all great. I wanted to mention these parts because they are all things that should be smooth and intuitive, and theirs was absolutely great. But the real difference started when I spoke on the phone with a lovely staff member in the week before we came. I called during service one day last week and the lovely person who answered the phone - was able to impart information and give me a sense that all she was doing was speaking to me on the phone - yet now having been to the restaurant I can just imagine what else was going on whilst she was calmly and charmingly setting me straight on how the tasting menu works. That takes skill and I really appreciated it. After that call, I was lucky having convinced my lovely girlfriends that we needed to do the tasting menu all together - which was a win on my part, but the flexibility that yes at a pinch two of us could have done the tasting and the other two could have done 'plates' instead was really a lovely surprise. Going through the eating preferences and coming up with a pescatariian option tasting really put me at ease and my girlfriend then having some more specifics on the night - were met with knowledgeable and polite yes or no or what about this instead manner, which was really welcomed. The lovely four legged Holly the gentle "I will say hi or come over if you want me to" part of the welcoming committee was an added extra for all of us who have dogs at home. She is nothing short of lovely and her manner hopefully wins over all clients whether animal lovers or not. The venue is a great interpretation of the space which they have really pulled together nicely. Not too packed, let the colours and artwork 'breathe' along with beautifully constructed dining chairs that look great but are genuinely comfortable - the lighting helps with the drama and 'staging' but is fit for purpose meaning we could all still see the menus etc.! The little touches like the dried 'bouquet' and linen that is 'real' is just lovely with clear attention to detail at all points - and it comes together beautifully. The food was nothing short of spectacular and it went from one 'ooooh, that is the best plate yet...' as each course progressed. Each mouthful for all the courses was literally a symphony of well matched and juxtaposed flavours, textures and visual colours. However, I have to say, for me and the pescatarian tasting menu, the scallops were an absolute crowning glory. I wouldn't usually seek out scallops but I think (only by a narrow margin because the other dishes were so solidly delicious!) the scallops were perfectly cooked - crispiness on the top, just cooked in the middle and the flavours with the truffle, mushrooms and the roe and artichoke puree were so considered, yet surprising yet oh so well put together. The plates and presentation were considered, fit for purpose and pretty/beautiful and great colours to showcase the food itself. And then we got to the dessert. It had an amazing construction of taste/texture and what a great constructed sweet dessert. The petit fours were lovely and a great 'finisher'. Good quality coffee to cap off (I was a driving that evening) and we were very, very happy with our dining experience. We couldn't quite believe it was 11.30pm when we finished, that is again the skill and nuance of the front of house lovely staff who sensed when to progress and when to check in if we needed a breather. That is true teamwork also, because I realised at the end that they pretty much had had a full restaurant the whole time, and not one table felt left behind, or having to wait too long for things etc. etc. which is very skilful communication and understanding of how the chef team and front house team individually works to bring it all together. The four of us are very dear friends but we do not get to see each other often enough (without husbands or children because of work commitments and travel et al) so it was a special meal event for us - and their lovely team have truly made it a memorable occasion."

"This newly opened restaurant is exactly what Falmouth needs - a fine-dining restaurant with a 6-course tasting menu and expertly matched wines. The service was excellent, food exquisite and the price was reasonable for the quality. It's the perfect restaurant for a special occasion or treat-yourself moment."

"We are big fans of tasting menus so we were very excited to try this place when visiting Falmouth. We came here for a birthday meal and everything about the evening was faultless. We were greeted at the door and offered a complimentary glass of fizz.. (lovely touch), and the service here strikes just the right balance of knowledgeable while also being relaxed and friendly. The tasting menu with wine flight was one of the best menus we've had.. not the cheapest admittedly but we didn't leave hungry, we weren't rushed, and we felt we had paid a fair price for the evening we had... and we would absolutely return again when next in Falmouth. Thank you for making my birthday so lovely."
