In early 2020, renowned local celebrity chef Michael Caines took over this beachfront venue, handy for the SW coastal path, which boasts “a conservatory at the front with views over the sea”. (It was previously run by Arty Williams & Annette Rickard for 17 years). Some reports do say it’s “lovely in all respects”, but a number of reporters “wanted to love it”, but found the experience blunted by “duff notes” on both the food and service front… here's “hoping it finds its feet”.

A “lovely position” with views over Maenporth Beach – including from the all-weather ‘Glassroom’ – combines with “very good food” from Cornish-born chef-patron Arty Williams at the attractive restaurant he has run for nearly 20 years.

The “beautiful views overlooking the breaking waves” at Maenporth Beach are the USP of this well-established outfit, with a particularly atmospheric terrace, though the “charming” staff and “lovely” fish-centric food also win reporters’ approval.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"A real disappointment. Marketing itself as fine dining, but delivering very bland and uninspiring food. Worst meal of the holiday and at double the price. Such a shame as it is in a glorious spot. "
