South African chef Hylton Espey (formerly at Merchants Manor hotel) with his wife Petronella opened this July 2022 newcomer on Custom House Quay, just by the sea, with a hyper-seasonal approach including many foraged ingredients. His ‘Journey Menu’ provides seven courses for £65 per person and is served from an open kitchen, and design-wise the 30-cover room adopts a pared-back approach featuring bare brick-work, wood and steel.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"This was our third visit to Culture, which opened last year. It was as amazing as on previous occasions. The food is delicious, fantastic combinations of ingredients and all tasting so fresh. Every dish is made from locally sourced ingredients - including foraged greens - and the team can tell you the story of each one. Each time we've been the menu - which is a set menu - has followed the same pattern but with new dishes each time. And every mouthful was stunning. We chose the wine flight option too and were not disappointed. Cannot praise this food highly enough. As a small restaurant with all diners served at the same time, the ambience is lovely - it can be as intimate as you want (as it was Valentine's night it was all couples out) but you can engage with other guests about the dishes too if you want. The service is personal, friendly and engaging and you can watch Hylton preparing all the dishes. It feels like having your own private chef and waiter. Just fabulous - nothing else like it in Falmouth. Can't wait for our next visit!"
