Roy Brett’s “fun” haunt is set around a stylish oyster bar (£1 a pop during ‘oyster happy hour’ 5.30-6.30pm) in the Old Town. A “superb choice” of “spanking fresh fish and seafood is lovingly prepared” (“the roasted seafood platter was worth the flight alone: freshest produce carefully cooked, and a genuine thing of beauty”).
“Fresh and delicious fish and seafood” is served in a “classy” yet “friendly and informal” environment at this extremely popular “stylish modern venue”, in an office block, “with great views over busy city streets in the centre of Edinburgh”. Top Tip – “the extra bonus of ‘Oyster Happy Hour’ every day from 5:30-6:30: oysters for a pound at the best fish restaurant in town!”
Mixed feedback this year on this “bustling seafood restaurant” – a “spacious and comfortable” operation, in an office block on the Royal Mile. Most reporters vaunt it as offering “Edinburgh’s best seafood”, but it was not without critics who found it “repeatedly underwhelming” and “expensive”.

"This was our first visit to Edinburgh as a birthday treat for my partner. We thought we'd keep the eating light and so settled for a fish restaurant. After some research, Ondine's seemed to fit the requirements. Overall, we found the food very good but the staff lacking. There was a long wait before being served and we only got served as I had to hijack a member of the waiting staff. He seemed more experienced than the rest of the staff and was very charming. Without his efforts, it could have been a sad evening. Having said that, we will return to the restaurant on our return visit to Edinburgh in June as the food was good."
