Harden's survey result
For 25 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 60,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
“Still trucking on after all these years and still the best in South Wales”; this “barn-like” stalwart Cantonese, amusingly located in its namesake Canton, is just “so consistent”, although there has been one change of late... “the stairs have got a new carpet (after what feels like 25 years!)”
“Strike Cantonese gold”, at this “very good-value” quarter-centenarian, aptly located in Canton; its “vast menu” includes “steaming cauldrons” of Won Ton noodle soup – “best I’ve tasted outside HK!”
Happy Gathering Restaurant Diner Reviews
"With Chinese chefs we could expect monosodium glutonate: in this case it's salt. Lots of it. Sometimes it's perfect, such as with the salt and chilli prawns, but sometimes it renders a dish almost inedible, such as the soft shelled crabs. Other than that this place is very good in a very traditional way. It serves classic dishes just as we remember Chinese food should be. Beautiful sauces (subject to the salt) and all of them particular to the dish: beef in oyster sauce, pork chops (thinly slivered) on a bed of onions and sweet and sour. Huge portions (spare ribs from a giant pig) and traditional, off hand service - the true image of Chinese waiters."
