A “very convivial” London-on-Sea outpost of Russell Norman’s hit Venetian bacaro (Italian small plates) spot; while it is doing better than its Bristol and Exeter siblings – both now closed – and avoids any harsh critiques, some reports speak of a “drop-off in quality” of late, or food that’s “average to good, but nothing to be delighted about”.

The South Coast outpost of Russell Norman’s “relaxed” small plates Venetian tapas chain has outperformed sister ventures in Bristol and Exeter, which closed down quickly. Feedback here is mixed though: fans claim “every mouthful is delicious”, while critics – “expecting more of Polpo” – found the food “average to good, but nothing to be wowed by”.

This “very busy” South Coast outpost of Russell Norman’s affordable bàcaro chain is perhaps “better than its London siblings” but echoes their profile – “the small dishes could be a little more imaginative, but it’s still a fun time”.

Russell Norman and Richard Beatty take their Italian cicchetti formula outside of the capital (mind you, opening in ‘London-on-Sea’ isn’t such a massive punt!). It’s “frenetic and noisy” like its siblings, and its “scrummy little morsels” have helped make it “a good addition to Brighton”.
