Nothing but praise this year for this “cosy, romantic” French bistro in the Lanes. The “solid menu with some very interesting specials” is “done to a high but far from pretentious standard” and “staff are all most attentive” too. Add in the “very reasonable prices” and it might just be “the best ‘proper’ French restaurant in Brighton” (and one visiting Londoner opines “200% better than its near-ish neighbour Bistro du Vin)”.

With a “uniquely buzzing atmosphere” befitting its Lanes location, this little bistro has a winning line in “classic French cooking that’s beautifully executed” and “good quality for the price” as well; the “simple steak frites and fish soup are a must”, and fans are “always interested to see what cheeses are chalked up on the board”.

This “sound French bistro” in Brighton’s Lanes serves “lovely food”, although the “closely packed tables” can leave you vulnerable to “loud neighbours”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Lovely little restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere and excellent staff. Unfortunately, on this visit, my wife’s pork chop was burnt but the staff were amazing and deducted this from the bill as well as giving my wife a free dessert. This did not overly detract from the evening as all the other food was fantastic but does explain my lower score on the food rating."
