Solidly good marks last year for Niall and Joanne McKenna’s “understated and classy” venue, which last year incorporated its neighbouring ‘bar and grill’ and fine dining operations into a single more brasserie-style set-up, complete with cocktail bar: many of the dishes, including steaks, come from the charcoal grill.

In August 2018, Niall and Joanne McKenna reformatted and refurbished their well-known local destination, converting the fine dining restaurant and its neighbouring bar and grill into a single operation to meet what they see as a growing the demand for a more bistro-style rather than fine dining experience. The venture inspired mostly positive feedback this year, but we’ve left it un-rated as the change of format beds in.

“A contemporary twist to some great Irish classics” keeps Niall McKenna’s well-established destination (celebrating 15 years this year) at the forefront of the local dining scene. There’s an à la carte menu, but fans recommend the “divine tasting menu” which provides a four-course and five-course option.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
