It wins the ongoing acclaim, it has the Michelin star, and yet this renowned contemporary operation in the Cathedral Quarter – complete with open kitchen presided over by chef Gareth McCaughey – generates surprisingly little feedback. The main event is a tasting menu – eight courses for £100 per person – which majors in locally sourced seafood and meat dishes. Reports please!

Moving into its tenth year of operation, this modern unit in the city’s Cathedral Quarter “where you can sit and watch everything being prepared” in the open kitchen remains one of Northern Ireland’s top dining destinations. “The tasting menu is full of flavour”, providing eight courses for £90 per person and backed up by “excellent service”.

“Adding to Belfast’s improving food scene” – Gareth McCaughey’s “buzzy” fixture opened in 2015 “in the thriving Cathedral Quarter of the city” and has emerged as one of the top destinations in Northern Ireland. The contemporary style of its glazed frontage and industrial design is carried into its seven-course menu for £90 per person: “a series of fabulous delights, with friendly attentive service and a great wine list or wine matching recommendations from their sommelier and an open kitchen to see all the activity of the chefs”.

“A Michelin starred restaurant tucked away in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter and deservedly so with exceptional food, wine and service” – that’s still our take on Gareth McCaughey’s ambitious but hard-to-pigeon-hole operation, with an open kitchen. It first opened in 2015, and has since established itself as one of the top destinations in Northern Ireland.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
