With its “nice cosy atmosphere” and “interesting gastropub food”, this Georgian hostelry with a courtyard garden near the Royal Crescent makes “a good mid-price choice in a wonderful city with so many charming places to eat”. It was acquired by St Austell Brewery in 2023, but no major changes are afoot.

This “top-notch gastropub” offers both “good vegetarian options” and “great Sunday roasts”. Its popularity and “buzzy atmosphere” owe much to a “lovely pub garden” and handy town-centre address, around the corner from the Royal Crescent.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Stunning Sunday Roast with an excellent wine list. Kids menu great too, making for a fantastic 17th wedding anniversary lunch on a sunny spring Sunday afternoon in Bath on the way back to London. I don’t go to Bath enough these days but next time I do this will be on the shortlist for sure, especially on a Sunday!!"
