Celebrated Club Hotel & Spa dining room, Bohemia – in Jersey’s St Helier – has unveiled a new look. Let’s hope this recent refurb’ will help improve the restaurant’s atmosphere in the hearts and minds of our survey reporters who felt it had “zero ambience”!
Still, head chef Stephen Smith’s cuisine is considered by many Harden’s readers to be “the best on the island” and it certainly sounds as though the décor may now measure up to the impressive food.
Frankly the press release goes on a bit about ‘luxurious carpets’, ‘crisp white linen’ and ‘lavish style’; but the new feature that piqued our curiosity is the private dining room which vaunts a statement chandelier made with 200 champagne glasses glowing with effervescent ‘champagne’, apparently giving the illusion of flowing bubbly (pictured).
Designed by Jane Goff, the interior also has very “now” bespoke gold-lined, low-hanging pendant lights, a specially commissioned panel of illuminated kiln-fired art-glass, banquet seating and walnut panelling. Even the bar has been retouched, with banquette seating, leather chairs, new artwork adorning the walls and a granite bar-top.
Bohemia was ranked number 74 The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants (powered by Harden’s), with special praise being given to Bohemia’s desserts which were listed ‘6th Best in the UK’.
