Auberge du Lac, Welwyn, AL8 7XG

picture of auberge du lacOur reporters have been saying for some time that Brocket Hall’s interior “needs a refurb to match its wonderful setting” – perhaps now it will get one. The estate in Hertfordshire, including the Auberge du Lac restaurant, is up for sale, after operator Brocket Hall International (BHI) went into administration.

The estate, which includes a golf course, hotel and restaurant, is the family seat of the scandalous Lord Brocket who was jailed in 1991 for a £4.3 million car insurance fraud. Brocket Hall was entrusted to the board of trustees who leased it to BHI which has been in difficulty since 2012, according to Caterer & Hotelkeeper.

The business, including Auberge du Lac, will continue to run as normal while a buyer is sought. All bookings and deposits will be honoured. Lord Brocket is thought to be interested in buying back the lease.
