"I started with a perfect dish of devilled kidneys on toast, the bread was especially flavoursome having soaked up all the offal juices. Matched with a reasonable St Emilion the meal was going very well. We had travelled there for a grouse. It is incredible that in North Yorkshire, in the middle of acres of Grouse Moors it is almost impossible to find a restaurant serving the peak of game. So I was very keen for my main course. Unfortunately, what I got was the two breasts cooked just over pink in a blackberry sauce. What I want is a whole bird roasted very rare sitting on a bit of fried bread smeared with the liver. Ideally with bread sauce and game chips. That is how you serve grouse for the maximum effect. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! So whilst the rest of the food was really good, the grouse was a birthday dissapointment. It would appear that to get proper grouse one has to go to London."

"At last! A really good Sunday lunch around Harrogate. Service was initially a little slow - but it was very and understandably, busy. Service was very friendly and precise. Beef was properly pink, and a good piece of sirloin. And thank the lord Harry, the Yorkshires were fluffy and crisp - and not rock hard as seems the norm these days. The location is beautiful - an idylic Yorkshire vale."
