Harden's survey result
Summary
Achieving “amazingly high standards” in an out-of-the-way location – on the coveted North Northumberland coast – this purpose-built boozer was expensively made over a while back by regional group the North Coast Collective. Dine on well-priced fishy fare (there are also steaks and burgers) in the restaurant/orangery or flower-walled courtyard, or pull up a pew at the bar.
Summary
“A great gastropub” – the oldest purpose-built boozer in this fishing village – that’s owned by the Northumberland-based North Coast Collective and makes a handy stop-off while on the coastal tourist trail. The menu skips from sous-vide pork belly to curries, with plenty of “locally caught seafood at a reasonable price” – and, as of a 2022 makeover which created distinct new dining areas, visitors can pick between the relaxed bar, flower-filled courtyard or restaurant/orangery, whose rope-laden decor nods to the site’s maritime past.
For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
