The Old Deanery is a Jacobean mansion in the shadows of Ripon Cathedral.
Acclaimed chef, Adam Jackson is surrounded by a buzz of excitement, having a collection of awards and accreditations to his name, and a list of some of the top restaurants on his CV. Adam was head chef at the Black Swan at Oldstead, where he helped win its first Michelin star in 2012. He then set up his own restaurant, the Park in Marmadukes Townhouse hotel which gained three AA rosettes.
Adam’s signature tasting menu is around 9 courses, each made using the best ingredients, prepared with Adam and his team’s culinary expertise.
Dining at The Old Deanery is an immersive experience, and you move through the building as you dine: Start in the warm and cosy Welcome Lounge with its big comfy sofas, before moving into the dark and atmospheric Chef’s Lounge. After your first course you will be taken into the light and refined dining room for the rest of your meal.
Throughout the meal you’ll learn bites of information such as how Adam’s young son helped pick the herbs, berries and wild garlic from our gardens, or how the game came from restaurant manager, Chloe’s family land.
The ambiance and service are relaxed and friendly; the food may be formal, but the atmosphere is not. As an independently owned family business, you may well meet the owners’ toddler and small dog during your visit!
The Old Deanery boasts 11 individually styled bedrooms, and all rates include our unique breakfast banquet, which has to be seen to be believed!

"Our second visit to The Old Deanery for dinner, bed and breakfast and we can't recommend it enough. The ambiance is great, the rooms are comfy and the food is amazing. Having eaten at a number of fine dining restaurants we think Adam is simply the best. The tasting menus reflect the season and are delicious and the breakfast is spectacular! Can't wait for next time!"
"We stayed for one night at the hotel and had dinner in the restaurant. The tasting menu was outstanding; the attention to detail in terms of presentation, taste and texture was some of the best we have ever experienced. The variety of the dishes and their combinations worked very well and the wine pairings were well thought out and complemented the food perfectly. The ambience is relaxed, welcoming and friendly, without compromising the focus on the dining experience. The hotel has a warm and comfortable feel, and in particular the dining areas, have a light and airy atmosphere, with very tasteful but not overpowering decor. Overall this is one of the best tasting menus we have had, complimented by warm staff and lovely surroundings. We will definitely return, and hopefully will be able to see how the menu changes from season to season."

"We first sampled Adam Jackson's food when he was at the Black Swan in Oldstead, and have enjoyed his food at several locations since. This was our first visit to his new restaurant at the Old Deanery. The food was as good as we have come to expect from chef Jackson, with a well-matched wine flight. Service was attentive, and the pacing of the tasting menu was just right. We particularly enjoyed meeting Adam Jackson (for the first time) to talk about the first course, an evolution of a dish we'd eaten at the Black Swan many years ago. We enjoyed hearing his ideas for the future of the Old Deanery. The building is lovely with superb views over the garden, and we look forward to hearing that the well-deserved Michelin Star has been awarded. "
"Stayed 2 evenings . Superb dining with an amazing taster menu which starts with private tasting experience with the chef Adam . We have been to various Michelin restaurants but this Restaurant is one to beat . Service outstanding to complement our whole stay . In addition breakfast was simply the best our friends have experienced too (and they frequently travel the world ) . Setting beside the Cathedral whilst having meals was stunning . Nearly all accounts on its tasting menu are of “incredible cooking”: “we first sampled Adam’s food when in Oldstead, and this was our first visit here with food just as good as we have come to expect from chef Jackson, with a well-matched wine flight.
