Breaking news

October 28, 2022:

Less than three weeks after announcing their closure in October 2022 (see below), a surprise reprieve came about when the owner of another prominent Indian restaurant in the city, Amita Sawhney of MemSaab, came forward with a rescue offer.

TO OUR GUESTS

We opened the doors to Masala Junction 7 years ago, envisioning a place where our neighbourhood could come together to celebrate special moments and milestones with family and friends.

Creating an experience of bonding over great food in a beautiful space was a labour of love for our family. So we were thrilled to have this recognised at the Nottingham Restaurant & Bar Awards when we were awarded winner of the Best Neighbourhood Restaurant.

We've been so grateful for the support we've received from our guests and community, however, the challenges in the last few years have been unrelenting. Although our amazing team has worked hard overcoming the unforeseen trials facing our industry during and post pandemic, the cost of running a restaurant has nevertheless sky rocketed. With the weight of continued price increases on our minds and the fact that we don't wish to outprice our guests either, it's with a heavy heart that we've made the decision to close our doors on

Saturday 15th October.

We're so grateful for all the memories we've been lucky enough to be part of with you, it's been a blast and we're proud to have warmed up this beautiful 1929 bank building for a time! Thank you deeply for all your support.

We will be in touch with all those who have bookings from the 16th October onwards to see if you would like to move these forward or to cancel. If you have any questions please reach out to us at info@masalajunction.co.uk.

“An old bank building has been beautifully converted” by the Aziz family (who also run two other outposts locally) and is now far more “comfortable” and atmospheric than it was in its former NatWest days; the Kashmir- and Lahore-inspired menu extends to a “great mix of vegan/vegetarian dishes” to satisfy non-carnivore companions too.

The “creative and well-cooked food” at the Aziz family’s third Nottingham venue is inspired by the flavours of Kashmir and Lahore. A “well-run establishment” in a “beautifully converted former NatWest building”, it provides a “great all round experience”. Top Tip: “the goat curry is a favourite”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
