"We went for lunch yesterday. Yes LUNCH, at 12:30. Because of the BOGOF on afternoon teas, every single table was booked, and apart from us every single person was having afternoon tea. At lunchtime!!!!!!! We felt so out of place it was bizarre. There was also the tacky sight of a woman at the table next to us producing a Tupperware container from her bag and decanting a load of the afternoon tea into it to take home. On a BOGOF! The AH provides a box for leftovers at the end of the tea, but presumably that was of insufficient size. After our lunch (which was excellent) we went to the matinee at the Theatre Royal next door. The Assembly House is a regular lunch venue for theatre goers before a matinee, and we heard other patrons complaining that they couldn’t get a booking for lunch because of the afternoon tea fiasco, and they would not return because the AH would rather take £23 for 2 people once a year than £60+ for lunch with a glass of wine on a regular basis. The AH needs to review its policy on booking tables for a BOGOF offer on a theatre matinee day, as they are losing regular customers."

"We went for lunch before going to the theatre next door for a matinee. The main restaurant was fully booked, but we were given a table in the Ivory Room, which was lovely. We enjoyed a very good lunch, with a couple of glasses of good quality wine, at a very reasonable price. What stood out was the service. Very professional, friendly staff. We will return!"
