Summary

“It’s almost worth going for lunch (or in summer) just so you can see the view” at this “gloriously situated venue, overlooking the Thames at Marlow”. In defiance of its uninspired culinary history, though, Atul Kochhar’s nouvelle Indian operation is about much more than merely the picturesque landscape – “just brilliant”, with “subtle layered flavours, beautifully presented”.

“Exquisite food, beautifully presented by staff who are attentive but not stuffy” win very high praise for Atul Kochhar’s ongoing regime at this famous landmark, superbly located on the river and with gorgeous views. “You expect this quality in London: not in the Thames Valley!”

Summary

That is has a “superb location on the river” with “lovely views” is the one undisputed highlight of Atul Kochhar’s famous Thames Valley landmark. A few critics find it “over-priced”, and feel that the cuisine “while good, doesn’t quite hit the spot”. For most reporters though, “it’s such a shock to find an exciting Indian restaurant in the home counties!”, and most reports are of “outstanding” cooking.

Summary

Atul Kochar’s new régime at this very traditional Thames Valley landmark (with “lovely views over the river”) is yet another sign of Indian cuisine’s emergence as a ‘fine dining’ option. However his team’s initial performance here is something of a “Curate’s Egg”. What is a “great venue” to fans is too “sterile” and “quiet” to doubters, service varies from “properly professional” to “shambolic”, and food that to critics seems “truly dreadful and expensive”, to fans is utterly “inspired” (“a veritable riot of colours and spicy palate-provoking flavours, embellished with telling textures and all masterfully executed!!”)

"magical food especially the salmon and lamb chop, and even the atmosphere was wonderful as the sun set over the water. "
