“The beautiful setting by Marlow weir with fabulous views is a big bonus for some tables, and also for any outside pre- or post-meal drinks” at Atul Kocchar’s Thames-side hotel dining room, which is now in its eighth year of operation, and recently benefited from a “lovely redecoration”. “Every aspect displays great taste and attention to detail”“high standards are set by the service” and “Indian food is successfully elevated to a high level” with “stunning flavours and exceptional cooking”.

Atul Kochhar is celebrating his sixth year in this “fabulous riverside location”. As experiences go, it’s “as refined as curry gets”, with “wonderful” modern dishes (if in slightly “small portions”) and “beautiful views over the River Thames” from its traditional, leaded windows. “Hotel restaurants are never supposed to be this good in the UK, especially in the home counties!”

“It’s almost worth going for lunch (or in summer) just so you can see the view” at this “gloriously situated venue, overlooking the Thames at Marlow”. In defiance of its uninspired culinary history, though, Atul Kochhar’s nouvelle Indian operation is about much more than merely the picturesque landscape – “just brilliant”, with “subtle layered flavours, beautifully presented”.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"This service mark is for the after service as we were fined £100 for a car parking fine after filling in the iPad on reception which clearly did not register our car registration and UKPC then fined us and the restaurant were polite but did not feel it was their responsibility and sent me to the hotel who also did not feel it was their responsibility. So clearly somehow this is my fault even though I did everything asked of me. Steer clear unless you can afford another £100 in the bill"

"Room a bit souless on a dark evening, whereas in daylight, there is the fabulous view of the River Thames' Marlow Weir. Food is an inventive, fine dining, take on Indian cuisine, beautifully presented. Enjoyed the food enormously but object to £5 plus 15% for a small bottle of water when I really wanted tap (for environmental reasons). Service is a little bit too efficient! "
