This “fabulous, fun and buzzy” four-year-old next door to the Coliseum, from the national San Carlo group, has won a good following. It specialises in “tasty” cicchetti or Venetian small plates, and provides an “unexpectedly friendly and attractive welcome in the West End”: “ideal for a light lunch” and “good for pre-theatre”.
This “fabulous, fun and buzzy” three-year-old next door to the Coliseum, from the national San Carlo group, has won a good following. It specialises in “tasty” cicchetti or Venetian small plates, and provides an “unexpectedly friendly and attractive welcome in the West End”: “ideal for a light lunch” and “good for pre-theatre”.
“A gem right next to the ENO”, this two-year-old Italian cicchetti (small plates) venue from the San Carlo group is “a great addition to the theatre district”. Most reporters are very happy with the food – “been twice, and both visits produced at least one truly memorable dish”.
This “attractive”, year-old, all-day Italian in Covent Garden, near the ENO (part of the national San Carlo group) wins pretty consistent praise for its “good value”. Service is a bit hit-and-miss, though, with different reporters complaining of either “interminable waits” or of food arriving “too quickly”.
The multi-award winning San Carlo restaurant group is excited to announce the launch of a brand new restaurant, Fumo, in Covent Garden, London. Fumo will open at 37 St Martin’s Lane in early September; it follows the successes of the Italian family owned San Carlo London restaurants Signor Sassi (Knightsbridge) and Cicchetti (Piccadilly and Covent Garden).
The new 130 cover restaurant, which will be open seven days a week, will offer all day dining and have the same chic and sleek design as the other restaurants, with Fumo featuring a solid marble feature bar.
The culinary focus will be on small plates or Cicchetti using the freshest seasonal ingredients – mostly sourced direct from produce markets in Milan. The cuisine represents local specialities from the varying Italian regions and includes dishes such as Tagliolini Lobster, Cod Vicentina - Venetian style cod, Homemade Gnocchi Truffle (crispy gnocchi with cheese fondue with truffle) and Guazzetto di Cozze e Vongole (mussels and clams with tomato sauce, chilli and white wine) and Tuna Tartare made at your table with the best Sicillian tuna. In the kitchen will be a brigade of 15 chefs from all over Italy, guided by San Carlo executive chefs Filippo Pagani and Franco Bellamusto, as well as Chef Consigliere Aldo Zilli.
Owners, the Distefano family pride themselves in providing an authentic Italian experience across all of their restaurants; everything from the design, the staff to the wine list - which is expertly matched to the food, has been conceived with the traditions of Italy in mind.
Commenting on the new opening Managing Director Marcello said:
“We’re excited to bring Fumo, a modern concept in Italian dining, to St Martin’s Lane, our existing London restaurants Signor Sassi on Knightsbridge Green and both Cicchetti sites in Piccadilly and Covent Garden continue to flourish and we expect nothing less for Fumo. With Fumo open our group expansion plans will focus on Bahrain and Dubai where we look to open in 2017.”

Fumo Restaurant Diner Reviews
"lovely small plates and an interesting mix of food and flavours. Not sure how close they are to their Venetian founders but an enjoyable selection early evening. A little let down by the slow delivery of some dishes."
