After a successful residency at Carousel, the trio behind Gezellig have now located their own site in Holborn for their unique offering of 'creative comfort food'. The name is a Dutch word that translates as ‘an atmosphere, which allows good times to happen’.
Harden's survey result
“You can tell head chef Graham Long trained with Phil Howard”, given the “precise” modern European dishes at this June 2019 newcomer, in Holborn’s old Town Hall (on the fringe of Covent Garden). It opened just as the survey concluded, but the few initial reports were already wowed by its 350-bin wine selection.
Gezellig Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Great pre-dining bar, decor is casual bistro but food is trying to be higher end. Started with some home made sourdough (very good), then pasta based starters (strong, but not amazing) and we shared the suckling pig - bit were good (the crispy belly), but the bitterballen wasn't so impressive), deserts were outstanding! Service rpetty good, the right level of attention but nothing to write home about. Free corkage was appreciated, bill without a bottle of wine at £165 was quite pricy! Ambience great, loudish rock music - so a different scene to many other restaurant with this level of food - will be interesting to see how it does."
